Folsom East Returns

Good news. After being pushed off West 28th Street, thanks to the luxury High Line condo explosion, the Folsom Street East fair is returning June 22--and it will happen just one block south, on West 27th Street.

Organizer Dave Hughes told 1010 WINS, “We did community reach-out and talked to a lot of the businesses on 27th Street, and you know, a lot of the places we spoke to like the Hotel Americano were very encouraging, and so, you know, we decided to move.”

On the Folsom East site, coordinator Gary Martin says, "We're thrilled to bring Folsom Street East back to the streets of New York City. We believe that 27th Street will be a great new venue for our event and are confident that our final permit will be approved in light of Community Board 4's unanimous recommendation to SAPO earlier this month that it go forward."

So, happily, contrary to earlier reports, the High Line hyper-gentrification machine hasn't killed all the kink of Chelsea -- yet. While it lasts, get out there and enjoy the grit.

It's so crazy that anyone would be offended by this in this day and age. Look at the guy on the right of this photo. He looks like that rubber suit character from season one of American Horror Story. Everything has gone mainstream, including kink! Let these guys have their outlet.

Let's see what the businesses and residents say AFTER the event...

Wow,good news for once.

I've seen images from the SF event and if I'm not mistaken there are (gay) porn actors and willing fans participating in oral sex. Not judging but will residents of this block take a live and let live approach when seeing this? I think our 2 Republican mayors have rid the city of just about anything alternative by taking away the homes and neighborhoods where an event like this would be embraced. As with the poor, the artists and those not seeking a 9-5 life there is no place left in Manhattan to call home.

Who cares what they say ? The gays were here long before these suburbanites.

We accomaodate then0m not the other way around

Anon @8:58 fortunately there are hundreds of thousands of us left because of rent stabilization, those of us who bought long ago, public housing, scrie and laws will only be strengthened.

We will be a craw in the side of the interlopers for many decades to come.

And by that time it is my hope that manhattan will one again be returned to the deserving.

If not at least I will have lived through the last great period of NYC before the declawing and grotesque homogenization of the once mighty manhattan

And lets not forget that the "alternatives" ( many gays and artists and others) are extremely wealthy and hold seats of power in this city.

So again the new crop of suburbanites are going to have an uphill battle trying to rid this city of everything different form what they know and understand.

I hope the double wide stoller puahing mom in yoga pants, in full self absorbed text-while-walk mode while on the way to meet up with her equally narcissistic power moms, looks up just in time to receive a face full of sweaty ass in chaps.

THE KIDS!!! WHO WILL PROTECT THE KIDS!!!!

I'm not so sure the battle will be uphill, look how easy it is for a developer to destroy historical buildings and make sweeping changes thanks to creed and lots of political power as in $$$. New York is too safe and those rich alternative people now go to places like The Box where a table cost $10,000 and get the kind of entertainment that the rest of of could find for little money.

I'm straight, but always loved the gays. First of all, they throw the best parties....and if they can annoy some of those Highline residents, even better. I'm on your side, sweeties.
PS: that was a very eloquent post

jaz, soon there will be sweaty gay men in chaps pushing the double strollers. i mean thats the direction you guys are going in, right? maybe i dont like it? as for anon 12:28pm, the gays in power are about the $. they are not in your corner, they are in bed w/the developers.

the developers keep silent about the waterfront culture while marketing the condos. then after the people move in they freak out. if there are empty units, then the realestate people get nervous & try to remove the street event. business as usual. and for all you angry gays out there: dont forget, gays have moved into poor areas & were the interlopers. they come they renovate, they make it chic. they are all over harlem now. what goes around comes around, right?? now its the straight peoples turn @ the gentrification game.

Yeah maybe but straight people make everything worse.

And if you think a small gay influx into one neigborhood compares even remotely to this across the board hypergentrification at the hands of the suburban set you are delusional.

This is a land grab and the city is being whitewashed by an utterly un urbane and uninteresting tsunami from middle america.

Tragic
